“Brother Widtsoe reaffirmed that ‘those who give themselves with all their might and mind to this [family history] work receive help from the other side. Whoever seeks to help those on the other side receives help in return in all the affairs of life.’” (Boyd K. Packer, The Holy Temple, 252)

Mother's Day Activity

The BYU Record Linking Lab shared an idea for a Mother's Day activity (that could also be used for Father's Day or Memorial Day, etc.). The idea is to make a goal for everyone in the ward/Elder's Quorum/Relief Society/another group to upload pictures of their mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers (or as many generations as possible). This is a quick and easy activity that can be used for training on FamilySearch memories and could be adapted to be used at any point during the year.

The FamilyHistory Guide

FamilySearch partner, The Family History Guide, offers free lessons on genealogy research topics ranging from how to use a number of key websites such as FamilySearch, Ancestry, MyHeritage, and FindmyPast to how to do country-specific research. There are suggestions for activities, with an entire section devote to Youth projects. (See index at the top of the page.)

Free Access Through FamilySearch Partners

FamilySearch has worked hard to create agreements with other major genealogy websites to offer free access to millions of additional records. While some of the sites restrict the use of some collections to paying customers (such as the British Newspapers collection at FindmyPast), the vast majority of records can be accessed through a free account. All you need to do is sign up!
