Volunteers Needed for 1950 Census Family Review

Indexing for the 1950 U.S. Census Community Project is coming along well, but FamilySearch needs more help in the “REVIEW FAMILIES” area. This is the part of the Census that ties families together into individual households. To get started, open the FamilySearch website, click on “Get Involved” found on the bar across the top, and then click on “1950 U.S. Census.” Then click on the “Get Started” button under “REVIEW FAMILIES.”

We were recently sent this excellent tutorial about “Review Families” on the 1950 U.S. Census. It was made by Angie Kivett, a stake Temple and Family History Consultant in the Rexburg Stake. This video provides step-by-step instructions so we can involve others in helping with the important 1950 U.S. Census Indexing Project.

Rexburg Temple to Reopen This Week

The Rexburg Temple has been closed for a few months, but it will be reopening this week. There are still a large number of appointments available for all ordinances. If members are struggling to understand how to use the reservation site, you could direct them to this webpage that has both printed instructions with links and a video that walks you through the procedure step-by-step.

Grow the FamilySearch Tree by Volunteering with the BYU Record Linking Lab

In addition to opportunities to serve through the Get Involved App or working directly in FamilySearch to verify names, attach records, and add to the tree on your own lines, the BYU Record Linking Lab has opportunities to help grow the tree through targeted projects. Projects include The African American Families Project, The World War I Heros Project, The 1910 Census Project, Record Hints for Ukraine, Grow Tree for Puerto Rico, and the Italy Tree Growth Project.

For each project, you will be directed to a spreadsheet of links that will take you to FamilySearch to link a particular record. Then you will type in your name as the volunteer who linked the record and add a "1" to the next box to show that this record has been linked. If you need help getting started or would like to use this as a ward or youth activity, contact Heather Cromar (208) 206-3430.
